How We Deliver

Online Soil offers efficient next day delivery (if order is placed before 2pm) all over the UK. But how does a tonne of topsoil make its way from our field in Ormsirk to your garden? Here is some important information on how we deliver.

At Online Soil we use 3rd party haulage companies who will arrive in a standard 18 tonne lorry with a tail lift at the back. If access to your address will be an issue for a lorry, you need to let us know! We can request a smaller 7.5 tonne truck to deliver instead. This is only a request however and is not guaranteed.

Your goods are lowered to the ground by the tail lift, essentially a large metal shelf, then manoeuvred to the kerbside using a pallet pump truck. We do not deliver using a hiab (crane) delivery service and so cannot lift over walls. Delivery must be made on a hard, flat surface for the small wheels on the pallet trolley to work!

Our topsoil bulk bags typically weigh between 800kg – 1000kg, that’s slightly lighter than your average hippo! The delivery drivers will always do their best to deliver your goods to where they are required. However, due to the restrictions of the machinery they use and the weights involved, this is not always possible and only kerbside is guaranteed. The wheels of the pallet pump will not turn on loose surfaces such as gravel or soil and it cannot be manoeuvred up or down any inclines. So we hope you appreciate why we require a flat, solid surface such as tarmac or concrete to offload your goods onto.

Delivery Time:

We deliver across the UK on a fast, next day delivery service. Simply place your order before 2.00pm during the working week and our expert team of elves will work hard behind the scenes to ensure you receive a prompt and efficient delivery.

Here at Online Soil we appreciate that not every customer can spare a full day to wait in for a delivery. To limit this time lost we can provide a pre 1pm or afternoon delivery for an additional £25.00 charge (PM delivery hours anytime after noon.) We can also request that the delivery driver gives you a call about 30 minutes before the delivery is made.

It is possible to arrange delivery without a signature, but we would be grateful if you could give us prior notice.

Delivery Days:

Our standard delivery days are Monday through to Friday. We do deliver on a Saturday! However there is a £30 surcharge, so many of our customers opt for a Friday delivery if they want the goods for the weekend. You can select your preferred delivery day on the calendar when you checkout through our website.

What do I do with the Pallet & Bulk Bag?

In regards to the bulk bags you receive your topsoil in, we ask our customers to consider the environment when disposing of any packaging. Unfortunately they are not returnable, but are often re-used for purposes such as collecting garden clippings, or if you’re creative get the sewing machine and scissors out and make some covers for your garden furniture.
Unfortunately we do not re-collect the wooden pallet that will be used to deliver your product and so is up to you to dispose of responsibly. If you have any industrial yards nearby that use pallets, chances are they will be happy to take it off your hands!
